Our Story

The Great Parents Club was born from the belief that parents are the first leaders in every community. For too long, we’ve seen the gaps—families struggling without resources, parents leading without support, and communities disconnected from decision-making. While programs for youth and seniors often receive investment, parents and parent-adjacent leaders are often overlooked even though they are the backbone holding families and neighborhoods together.

Our founder and CEO, Sharema “Coach Rema The Great” Harvell, knows this firsthand. As a mother, community leader, and organizer, she has spent over a half decade building bridges across Harlem—consulting with NYCHA Resident Association Presidents, training community leaders, and helping small nonprofits and parent-owned businesses gain visibility, resources, and power. Through this work, she saw the truth: if we don’t invest in parents and parent-adjacent leaders, we can’t truly transform communities.

That’s why The Great Parents Club exists not just as another nonprofit, but as a movement for parental leadership, economic empowerment, and community development. We empower both household parents and community parents the Resident Association Presidents, Community Board leaders, and grassroots organizers who parent entire neighborhoods. From business expos to leadership trainings to resource fairs, we focus on turning access into action.

Our work is simple but powerful: empower parents, uplift community leaders, and watch entire neighborhoods rise.

Mission

The Great Parents Club is dedicated to strengthening parental and community leadership through economic empowerment, resource access, and capacity building. We empower parents in the home and parent-adjacent leaders, such as NYCHA Resident Association Presidents and Community Board members, by providing the tools, partnerships, and opportunities needed to transform their communities.

Vision

We envision thriving communities where parents and community leaders are fully equipped as change agents, families have equal access to opportunity, and residents lead solutions that shape the future of their neighborhoods. By empowering both household parents and community parents, we build stronger families, stronger leaders, and stronger communities.
